Default wiper cowl question (havent found the answer to this in other threads)

So today I decided to go ahead and work on my windshield washer problem today. Read here on the forums how to take the cowl off. Thanks to everyone who posted those threads by the way, made things a lot easier. Got my wipers off and sure enough passenger side key was gone. I assume that's not a big deal as long as I get the splines limed back up right since it was gone before I took it off. And sure enough my y fitting that connects the hosts for the windshield washer had a hole in it. So I have to part to replace that too but.... as I was taking the cowls off the weathetstripping between the cowl and windshield fell off and pretty much fell into pieces. My question is. How important is the weatherstripping. Should I get new to put on after painting them or does it matter. Probably a stupid question but I just want to be sure. Thanks guys ahead of time.

need to replace it.. this keeps water out of you engine bay... may also prevent noise from the cowl.. should be able to pick some up at your local auto parts store.

I just used weather stripping from Home Depot, cost less than $5. Like techrep said, it keeps water out, it also keeps the cowl nice and tight so it doesn't vibrate on the highway.
For the y-connector, you can use vacuum connectors from any auto parts store. Mine crumbled when I took the cowl off to paint it.

Thanks guys. I went to O'Reillys got the y vacuum and got the weatherstripping from them while I was there. Painted and put back on. Looks great. Guys at work thought I had bought new cowls to pit on it. The threads here were a great help in getting the project done. Next time I'm off and its not raining or too cold I'm going to tackle my bed rails. Thanks everybody for all the info in here.
