Default Wiper cowl end pieces

Ok so for the second time in my trucks life the wiper cowl had faded, so I took it off to paint and when I did the ends completely broke off this time around so I fixed it the best I could

Before

First step glue them back on I did this with poly urethane glue filling in all the cracks

Then I coated them with 3 heavy coats of bedliner waited for them to dry and scotch brighted them down as smooth as I could

Sorry don't have finished picture but look back for end result later today

I know this is a huge problem all of us f150 owners have so thought my fix might help others

I used the heat gun trick, although I did try it out on my kid's Focus before I was willing to experiment on the truck. It seems like one of those bogus internet fixes, but it works well and has lasted 6 months and counting. Just heat the faded plastic with the heat gun until it turns black and shiny again. Use common sense and move the gun around to even things out and keep from turning the plastic into a puddle. But it does work surprisingly well.

I've used the heat gun on my flares on the truck as well as the miles of black plastic on my jeep and I does work great. If you couple it with a good uv protectant like armor all it will last even longer. Although here in Vegas it is still just a temp fix when it gets to 114 and the sun melts pens in your truck.

There's an older post on these end pieces that had a member make his own from some rubber he bought at a hardware store.

This is a good post to have here; shows there are alternatives to having to buy the complete left/right cowl pieces just to get the rubber replaced (not available seperately). Great post.
