Default AC burning smell

Hey all, been a while since I've been on here because I haven't had any issues with my truck, until the other day. I was driving around with my AC on because it's hellishly hot down here in Florida right now. I've had some problems with my AC and always figured it was just a small leak in the system. Well the other day after driving around running errands I parked back at my house and got out and noticed my truck smelled like burning. I've been a little apprehensive to use the AC since because I don't want to deal with that again. So my thoughts quickly went from an AC leak to maybe the compressor was failing or something? I've heard horror stories of the compressor locking up and cars throwing a belt and having a ton of problems and lots of cash. What's everyone think?

Could be ac compressor clutch went out and the burning smell is coming from your belt burning up while going across the ac compressor pulley. If the clutch goes out the pulley won't spin properly when the ac is turned on.
