hmmm
I was thinking of using Royal Purple on my truck, but, I've heard mixed things about it, but, it sounds like its worth it to me. Dont know if It'll quiet down my truck or anything cause I've heard in another post that the sounds in your engine is quite common with the 04-08 model F150s. I thought my ticking sounds were gonna cost me a lot of money, but, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. My truck has run perfectly fine for 2yrs now with the ticking sounds and absolutely nothing has happened to it...yet...

Well. I'm currently using ford 5w20 with Lucas stabilizer .. gonna change to. Rotella. 5w40 no additives. . But again i need to order guides and tensioners .. plugs and coils all new last week. More power and s little rough at idle still and no misflfiring

Personally I'd try a good detergent oil first before going to Rotella. Rotella is a good oil, but I'd wager there needs to be some cleaning first. My suggestion would be a 5w-30 Pennzoil Ultra if you can get it. You'll be surprised how quickly the oil will change color. Then after a short OCI or two with Ultra, see if it helps then go to the Rotella.

The only "flush" type of product I recommend is Kreen and really that's only for a really dirty motor. Most flushes are a no no as they either use a solvent, don't have any lubrication, or bring things out in chunks. Slower cleaning like with Ultra is far preferred method. You can go straight to the Rotella, but I'd do shorter OCI because the detergent pack isn't as robust .

Just an update frm me and my 2010 F150 XLT, Today I drove the **** out of it for about 90 miles I stoped changed oil filter put an Extra guard farm filter on and put a quart of Lucas in it continued driving it with my foot to the floor when possible.
For about 50 additional miles when I got home I changed the oil and for only 1700 miles on that oil I was amazed how thin and dirty in color it was.
I am going to do this again in another 1500 miles it really seemed to help in moderate acceleration and it may have quieted it down some I can' hear my truck run while I'm in the cab anyway, my engine does not make noise.
Further more I have put some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner in the gas tank ( another reason for short oil change interval) and noticed a modest increase in fuel economy. my truck has 163,000 miles and purrs like a kitten.
Reguarless of your maintenance routine (oil changes) engines are exposed to heat, cold, condisation, dirt and thermal break down of the oil velocity.
Find a way your comfortable with in cleaning your engine internally both gas and oil ( do not use ethanal) as fuel.
I do NOT work at a dealer I am just an old scool mechanic and am sick of people that call themselves mechanics that only know what the computer screen shows them.
My advice do a good tune up annually change plugs, air cleaner and what ever sensor that may be making your engine mad.
Just ask questions before doing ANYTHING to your vehicle.

You boys are exactly right the Fram Filter is NOT a good choice for the 5.4 yet it was what the General store had and it was less than 50 miles till I took it off.
After talking to another respectable mechanic I am going to change filter (Motorcraft) and put a quart of marvel mystery oil in for another 1000 miles then change the oil VCTs and cam sensors I truly believe varnish on these tight tolerance engines is more of an issue than the Phazer, guide and tensioners.
