Why is my Check Engine light on?

I'm no mechanic but if your engine were running closed loop all the time it IMHO is probably the OBC module and you should notice it.
I posted a similar question about my 04 Lariat 60k 5.4 3V light was on. Gages hesitated to register and bounced a bit at start up. The digital trip, gas mileage, etc.. info would reset. I was thinking gremlin....
It was recommended I check the battery. Sure enough, original battery from MotorCraft. Replaced it a few days ago with Interstate Megatron and all has been perfect! Worls of differnece.

Well.... I appear to have no engine running problems. I crank it up and it has the high idle for a few seconds like it normally should and then idles properly. Then it runs normal... no misfires, no weird noises... just normal. I really don't know where to look until I get a code check done. Be gettin that done this weekend.

2010 XL F150 Engine light stays on after startup
Once the auto store gives you the code(s), enter the code in the google search window. You will get several links; open each one until you find one that provides the code definition, and what to repair/replace to correct the fault. Be aware that most codes can be caused by several sensors, so it may require you to either replace one part at a time until the code clears (expensive way to troubleshoot), or pay a shop to do this. You will either need a diagnostic scanner (or tuner) to clear the code, or you have to disconnect the battery to force the code to clear. Removing the battery causes the PCM (powertrain control modue) to have to "re-learn", so your idle may be rough until you drive a few miles at several cycles.
Most repair shops have "test" sensors that they use to identify which part is causing the fault, then they replace the part with a new one once the faulty part/sensor has been identified. You pay labor costs plus parts, but it may be cheaper than you replacing one part at a time until the code will clear.

Went tp O'Rileys and bought 1 SO2 sensor. They did not tell me that there were 4 of them? Replaced 1 where they said it was needed. Afterwards the light still came on. Perplexed I Googled SO2 Sensor, what else. I was shown that there were 4 SO2 Sensors!! Could purchas them on ebay. Showed me several prices as low as $49.00 for 4 SO2 sensors. I chose the Motorcraft SO2 Sensors. 4 for $96.00. Had all tot SO2 sensors put on. Drove it for a while and then the Check engine light came on again. I will go by Advance auto to see what they say now. Might need to put it in the shop to let them go over all the reasons.

Maybe wrong section, but the better advice would have been to bring us all the codes and let us decipher them here. That’s really not changing between 11G and 12G trucks.
Odds are that the guy changed four good oxygen sensors for nothing because a counter jockey scratched his head, grunt, thought “Ooga Boogah change part there” and told him to.
Now, it looks like he didn’t diagnose and fix anything.

Went by autozone to get computer read out. The said S)2 Sensor. I replaced one. They didnot tell me that there were 4 of them. Wanted to charge me $1.09 to replace 1?
Went tp O'Rileys and bought 1 SO2 sensor. They did not tell me that there were 4 of them? Replaced 1 where they said it was needed. Afterwards the light still came on. And when you do create that new thread, make sure to offer as much information as possible so it's not 3 days of guessing.
People will need to know what code numbers you're computer is reporting. What motor and year truck you are driving. If there is any recent maintenance, or any maintenance. How long has the problem been going on for?
Pretend we are all strangers to you and will only be able to offer advice to your exact question.
So far you haven't asked a question that can be answered.
I'm sure that within a day or 2 you will receive enough answers to help but if this is above your ability -maybe just consider a shop diagnoses. Or at least have the diagnosis then report back here of how/what should be fixed.
Unfortunately this 10 year old thread isn't the same as your problem and a new thread on your behalf is probably going to get you better results. "Check Engine" light is not a one-stop question that is repairable by a single fix.

DTC's should tell you what sensor ie.. up stream/ down stream left back/right bank if i'm not mistaken.

The reply was to Johnny Paycheck who stated. but the better advice would have been to bring us all the codes. I was very detailed in explaining why I didn't bring the codes because I was made out to be Stupid not to bring them. I had included the Picture of my Ford truck.
