Default Why loss of mpg after battery reset?

Did the gotts mod and cut off the baffles on the intake. I unplugged the battery and did the idle relearn steps I read about in the sticky. I went from 14-15 mpg to 13 on the first tank. I am not sure why. Anyone else experience this?

Right foot......lol. I have the Gotts mod with AEM dryflow filter and a Gryphon tuner with my own settings, I get 18mp's easily and if I drive like a grandpa, hit 20 all the time. But hand calculated I safely average 18mpg's.

No that isnt it. I am very conscious of how I drive. How do you like your AEM dryflow? I dont like most lifetime filters because they have to be oiled to catch the fine particles. Does the tuner really make a difference in millage?

Bbrad,

If you have 4WD, check to make sure your front shafts are not engaged all the time. I had a sudden decrease in mileage also and found the front shafts were staying engaged all the time. My problem was due to a bad vacuum solenoid. Easy to check if you have a helper. Have them slowly back up while you look at the shafts to make sure they are not turning when in 2WD. You could also jack it up and check if they are disengaging when the engine is on but the helper makes if faster and easier.

Good luck

I guess it's possible but I did replace the vaccum solenoid under the hood already.

New tank and it seems to be getting the mpg I was seeing before. Decided to replace the fuel filter tonight since my napa discount brought the gold filter down to $8. Can't beat that. After seeing the fuel filter on there I am pretty sure it was the original. Took it for a test drive and it already seems to be idling much smoother now.

Also noticed the fuel pump module is original and has quite a bit of corrosion on it. Will be replacing that when funds allow. Guess spark plugs are in order too. Any thoughts on champion plugs?

Also if your FPDM isnt all the way corroded, no need for a new one. I removed mine, cleaned it all up and sprayed 6-7 coats of rustoleum flat black on it, then made 1/2" spacers to keep it off the cross-member. Works perfectly.

If you have the 5.4 you need SP515 plugs. I did mine on a warm engine after 2 full gas tanks that each had a bottle of seafoam in it. Really burned off the carbon on the plugs (the reason the plugs break is the carbon seizes the plug to the head) seafoam removes a lot of the carbon. My plugs had 113K on them and none broke.
