Krylon makes a black plastic paint.
This was probably my favorite mod. The amount of storage gained is at least double.

Yep just purchased my paint today so I can work on it tomorrow. My interior is gray with black floor. So I am going to go two tone with it. Black lower half with the top armrest and cup holders the darker gray. Or maybe just the darker grey all over not sure because there are a few shades of gray in the interior.

Update:

Ok seems it is not just a swap out with just a little cutting. I could not for the life of me understand how it was going to mount it to the floor. After struggling for hours I realized I did not get the mounting bracket. With out having another solution I decided to drive all the way across town and get the bracket(s) which cost $15 bucks. Yes there were two I guess that is why I did not notice it them.

I stopped along the way just to see if I could get it to mount and realize the back will bolt in but the holes are not lined up with ours in the front. Still as long as I have the back I think I can fabricate a sturdy solution for the front. Sad part is a cold front is coming so who know when my truck will be back together.

On a side note I put the cup holder top in and I was in love. The cup holders were in the perfect spot. Also the cubby in front will be just in arms length for my phone. I didn't photo it because the black paint was still wet.

Don't judge my junky truck. Oh and I have a new radio kit in the mail so it won't look that crappy for long.

The bottom bracket is the back and the top is for the front. The front bracket also mounts further back in our trucks than it should be.

Did you get any further with this project today? Pics, pics, pics.

I did not make any progress because of the temperature here. My radio kit and new gauges should be here by tomorrow when the temp will increase for a minute. I am going to work on it then
This is an exact match for our light grey interiors.

. What I am thinking of doing is making my own front brace that will bolt in using the current holes. I don't think it will be a hard job at all.

Oh and yes it is dupli-color.

Ok so it warmed up today so I decided to go out and see what I could get accomplished. If you look you will see the factory brackets that do not work with our floor pan at least in the front. I went to Home Depot and after thinking about it I purchased the two brackets that are L shaped. Great part is they line up with the inside of the plastic inner structure. Kind of adding to the rigidity of the structure.

I then just drilled holes guestimating where it would come through and it seemed to work front and back. Because the holes in the rear were so small I didn’t need or could have put screws on the inside like I did up front. Now the bad! Because of how I chose to mount it it will not sit flush with the dash. Thinking about it in retrospect I should have purchased wood that I’d cut and drill holes in where I’d put the floor pan screws. Then I could have attached the plastic inner brace to the wood further up with a little cutting here and there making it flush. Cheap and it would have been easy. At the same time, I could have solved a second issue. The inner mount sits too low for it to mount properly with the outer shell.

It is still very sturdy but I could go back and lift the inner part so that it meets but I’m not going to. I’ll fabricate something easy to close the gap or go back and modify what I did. It really isn’t hard to get in our trucks and having done it I can see how it could have been done better with wood and longer floor bolts I spotted at Autozone. Going to be patient and think about what I will fabricate the gap with. Now I have to change my transmission filter, install new radio kit, replace right mirror, install new fender and paint it then install new gauge cluster. I’m tired.
