Why Ford?

Why Ford?
Hello everyone,
I am looking at buying a new (to me) vehicle in the next month or two and have been doing a lot of pricing/researching online as to what will fit the bill between what I want and what I need. Within my price-point I have found two options I like in the Toyota 4runner and the F150. I have always liked Fords (folks have an '85 150 that still runs strong) but Toyota has a legendary high-mileage reputation.
My questions are this: What made you all choose Ford? How many miles do you have on your 04-08 F150? What is your real-world MPG average? Since the trucks in my price range all seem to have 90-115k on them, is it viable for me to get one and run it to 200k plus? What common issues should I be aware of? Any advice would be great!

For me Ford wasn't an option, parents have me the truck. But I appreciate it a lot. It's never let me down with 200k on it. My dad has one just like it with close to 320k. But to be totally honest you can't go wrong with a Toyota or Ford in my opinion.

Ive owned a few different brands of trucks and my friends are all Dodge or Chevy people. My Fords always seemed to have the least problems.....but I changed the oil religiously and greased everything when it needed it. The biggest problem with buying any used vehicle is the person before you. You don't know what they did/didn't do to it. If you are looking at resale for later, not sure which one would hold up better. It would all depend on your options (engine size, SCab/Single, etc.). I love Fords mainly because of their history and the fact you have to know a lot about your vehicle to work on it, unlike a Chevy where anybody can build one.

its nothing to get over 300 000 km on these trucks and the series before them....but it all comes down to regular maintenance and not letting something go for too long and have it domino to other things. me i am not a fan of toyota, i know lots of people with them and they all love them, i just can't let them in my head yet. i love my ford and will replace it with the same thing when the time comes, chev are good too, but stay away from the dodge they just feel cheaply made....my opinon

It also depends on what you plan on doing with the truck. If its going to be your daily driver, then Toyota might be a better option. My F150 is my daily driver (100+ miles a day). I had to have a truck. An SUV wasn't an option. I don't regret it. We have a 2003 Toyota Sequioa that will probably run forever +/- a few years.
It's a win win on either vehicle. As said in previous posts, you have to assume that the previous owner was a moron and be prepared to do all service from scratch (plugs, transmission service, COPs, etc.)
Good luck!

There's a good reason(s) the f150 has been the best selling vehicle in America.
Try one and find out.
I have owned most brands in my ~50 years of driving. Have enjoyed the Fords the most.
My '04 Super Cab has 66,000 miles. No issues. 4.6 V8. MPG is 18.6 combined.
My dogs love it too.

I have a question for the OP. There is a significant difference between an F150 and a 4 runner. They are not in the same class at all. Why are you looking at these two vehicles?
Why not another small SUV if you are looking at the 4 runner or another pick up truck if looking at the F150?
One of your concerns seems to be mpg, which will pale in comparison on the F150 when put up against the 4 runner.
Figure out what your needs are first and then settle on a class of vehicle.
There is just no comparison between the two vehicles you have noted.

12 Second Truck
Love my 07. It has served me well. From towing to racing. It's life has not been an easy one. But I take damn good care of it. 89,400 miles with the only issues being due to mods other then the brake light leaking which was a factory defect.
Mpg stock was 18.3 hwy. dropped to 18 with the supercharger. Down to 16.5 now but thats thanks to 4.11 gears, 22" wheels, a stall converter, and I more then doubleed the hp to the wheels (125% over stock.)
