Hey guys i have an 08 5.4 and i didnt think the cam phaser problem applied but i got in my truck today and it was ticking like a deisel... only has 37k and i thought maybe it was the cold, but there have been colder days... could it be the cam phaser?
Mine did this when I first bought it at 55k miles. I was ticked, but I ran some higher quality fuel through it and ticking/diesel-like-sound is gone. Deff not cam pahsers.

There are two sounds these engines make, usually the ticking is the fuel injectors, i think they always will do that eventually even if replaced.
Then you have a knocking, very diffrent then the ticking and that is usally the phasers. thats what makes our trucks sound like diesels. 04-05 trucks are the loud ones. havent seen anything about newer years being affected.
i heard the 08's wont have the phaser problem because it was resolved when the 08's were made, but the injectors are very loud and tick. that's what mine was diagnosed with loud injectors, real annoying, anyone know when the manifold leak issue was or if it was even fixed? its mainly the passenger side that's loud...
