Unhappy 4x4 Vacuum hose cut?

Whats up guys? Its been a while. Well the other day I decided to finally look into why my 4wd wasn't working, my first thought was the transfer case motor because it wast shifting into 4hi for 4 low. After changing that it goes into four low but I think its stuck in 4 high. after doing a little digging I found the front axle vacuum solenoid (I think thats the name) and around there, there's a vacuum hose, that looks like it was cut. I can't find what its supposed to attach to but I have a bad video to go with my bad explanation. I hope someone knows what its supposed to attach to and maybe how I could get a replacement. Thanks!

Not sure if this is helpful but I thought there were meant to be 2 solenoids mounted to the firewall. They were shown side by side on other models. Maybe they have done away with it in your model year but not sure why the mounting bracket would be there, looking empty.
I was thinking perhaps the cut/torn hose is a vent line, I think a vent comes from the IWE back up to connect someplace. That's one part of the IWE system I'm not sure about yet, the vent.

This has @johnday in BFE written all over it for help.

LOL, thanks Ingot. Well, Noah, you have an 11th gen, and sadly, I'm not entirely sure about which solenoid does what, if I had one of that gen, I likely could trace what is what. At any rate, it looks like one of the lines been broken/cut, and should be replaced.
I hope someone that knows that gen pops in, but I know for sure, one of those solenoids controls vacuum to the IWEs. I'm afraid that if the 4X system hasn't worked in a while, you may have more than one problem.
Let me do some looking around, and I'll get back as soon as I can.

Well John was sure a letdown.

I've watched this video before, it's all I had to base the idea of a missing solenoid. He identifies the model year in this video. Just before the start time of the link, he talks about how the system works, etc and has a diagram of the system including electrical and vacuum. I feel like this video can get you started in the right direction. He does a good job explaining in his videos (I may have watched one too many of his videos) and provides good video of what he's discussing.

On the other hand, this video shows a single solenoid. It does have the rain hood which was added in later years. He did not state the year (I didn't rewatch the whole video) that I know of. In the first video, however, he mentions that in new years they have more solenoids. That seems backwards though.
For what it's worth, the modern trucks (2015+) have a single solenoid and is on the opposite side of the truck.

Ive been looking into it and unfortunately was not lucky enough to find out if my truck had 1 or 2 solenoids. Ive tried YouTube google I've even tried looking at truck for sale to see if they have engine bay pictures to compare. I have found out the the 2006 has 1, and the 2004 has 2, so I would say Im further back now than when I started. Ill keep looking to see if I could find anything thanks for your help so far!

coming up from the wheel end .. you have a double line.. 1 is vacuum to the wheel end and the other is a vent line from the wheel end. it shouldn't be crimped. it needs to release vacuum in order for the wheel end to engaged the hub.

[QUOTE=16IngotFX4;6491983]Well John was sure a letdown.

Ahh, my wife always says that too.
I just wasn't sure about that generation truck, and didn't want to inadvertently misguide anyone. Apparently Ford made a change somewhere there by going to a single solenoid, and they changed out the actuators as well.
At any rate, it looks like Noah's is set up like the newer trucks.
So, that line that is cut/broken, is the vacuum supply to the IWE. That line is going to need replacing or repairing. With no vacuum being supplied, the IWEs should be locked in. What could be checked, is to see if you have vacuum on the cut end, that at least will let you know if the solenoid is working.
Have you checked all fuses relating to the 4X4 system?

The line that you think is cut is the vent line. Typically they curl up into the engine bay with the 'cut' end curling downwards.

You'll have to test the IWE on each side. I'm suspecting one or both need replacing. Additionally, you should update the solenoid to the revised part with the rain/moisture hood.

Also a good idea to test the check valves - they are prone to getting dirty and failing.

Read THIS for a complete guide.

Techrep and Ecobuilder are both correct, that is the vent, supposed to be open. Had to watch the OPs video a couple more times.
