Default How to drain standing water

Found the source of my leak, that's no longer the issue. After dealing with my rain leak, I have to deal with some standing water where some wiring runs between the floor and the door on the driver's and passenger sides in the front (don't slaughter me too bad on terminology, I'm not very mechanically inclined).

It was very easy on the passenger's side, just pulled up the little plastic footstep piece and there was a little rubber plug underneath some of the wiring harness in there. Drained right out! Go to do the driver's seat...much more wiring and no rubber plug. And much more water on this side! To be clear, no standing water on the actual floorboard, just in this little wiring harness/trough type area. Is there a drain plug somewhere here that I'm just missing out of pure idiocy, or am I supposed to drill my own drain hole? Because the wiring harness takes up almost all the space and doesn't really budge in any direction, can't just sop it up with a towel and/or shop vac... there's no room!

Edit: I've educated myself a bit, standing water is in the wiring channels. I r smrt

Edit 2: I forced the grommet up where the ebrake went through the channel. Got the worst of it out, but there's still some water there in the lower part of the channel. Not sure if I was supposed to do that, but maybe now I won't have a steam bath every morning opening the door to get to work!

A couple of ideas
  • Park on a very steep incline to get the water to run to one end or the other of the wiring channels and sop up what you can. If you have a MityVac vacuum tool suck out the rest.
  • Blow out with compressed air (protect interior)
  • Use a standard vacuum (or shop vac) in blower mode and direct it into trough then let it run for hours
  • I would guess that the wire loom is secured in the trough with plastic push pins and the hole for the pins (if any) will allow the water to drain if the pins can be located and removed. Look at the location of the hole on passenger side and see if a similar hole location exists on driver's side.
BTW where was your leak that you fixed? What was the fix?

Thanks for the ideas! I'll prop the grommet open and try in blower mode, not many inclines around here. Wish I had an air compressor, and all the coin operated ones around are out of order.

The leak was, of course, the 3rd brake light. Though it wasn't the seal, the clear plastic bit was very poorly mated to the rest of the housing. Replaced with a better one, have some backup gasket maker at the slightest sign of moisture next rain. Alternating treatments of ozone machine, 90% alcohol, and baking soda/shop vac sessions removed mildew smells after drying all the affected mats and padding out.

I've had pretty good luck absorbing it with a sponge.

Get some fish tank carbon charcoal. I put it in a couple old socks and put it under the seat. It does a great job absorbing the smells.
