Default Whirring Noise on Acceleration only

I have a 2005 5.4 Lariat 4x4 and just had the transmission replaced with a remanufactured from Ford four weeks ago. Today I jumped in the truck and pulled out of the driveway and was greeted with a "whirring" noise coming from the transmission/transfer case/front diff area of the truck.

It is loud and only occurs while in drive or reverse and gets a higher in pitch as I gain speed. It does not matter what gear as long as I'm accelerating there is the whirring. As soon as I let off the gas it stops. Put it in neutral it stops. Put it in park it stops.

I thought it was the rear pinion at first but got someone else to drive it and it is not coming from the rear. Anyone have suggestions or similar issue?

I'd take it to ford because if its the transmission then it should still be under warranty since they just installed it.

If it is the transmission that's a given, however, if it is not the transmission I don't want to take it 24 miles to the dealership and then have them bend me over a barrel for a non-transmission issue.

I'd say it's something between the transmission and the crankshaft.

If it were me I'd definitely go back to Ford. I'm interested to know what the problem is but I'd have to know more information to diagnose further.

Took it to the dealer tonight, they know it will be waiting for them in the morning and tomorrow I hope they will let me know what they find .

Having the same issue I think, definitely post the result. Seeing lots of people with this issue on the forum, haven't found a definitive answer in my searching yet.

And the winner is...bad torque converter!

Since it was part of the remanufactured transmission assembly installed five weeks ago it is covered under the 3yr/unlimited warranty.

Good deal. Thanks for replying. I knew it had to be something in there based on simple logic. Good thing it won't have to come out of your pocket!
