Newbe needs help on my 2005 F150
Hey guys I am new here. I have done some searching and did not find any info on this exact problem....In cold weather....say 25 or lower I have a whining noise that is coming from the right front side of the truck. The best way I know the explain the sound is like a playing card in the spokes of a bike. The more speed I pick up the faster it gets. On a whim the other day I turned the 4wd on and it stopped immediately. So now I will just turn the 4wd on for a few seconds then turn it off and the sound doesn't come back. I only hear it when it is cold. any Ideas??? Thanks!

IWE solenoid is your problem. Mine does the same thing. The solenoid controls the front hubs, tells them when to engage and when not to. Some how the solenoid is allowing water to get into the vacuum lines which sometimes gets the hub halfway engaged. Which make the noise. For a new solenoid your can go to www.fordparts.com. I think they're only about 20-30 bucks for a new one.

It is located on the firewall, passenger side. Up near the top. it has two vacuum line connecting to the bottom. Simple to replace. You just want to make sure that you get the vacuum lines blown out. To do this just get a small air compressor and disconnect the lines and both ends and give them a couple of blast of air. Maybe try blowing out the lines before you replace the solenoid. See if that helps. Save ya 30 bucks.
