Just a thought. The whining noise is the identical sound of a small car when it's backing up. Don't know if that will help.

Yup. That's the same sound I get. Usually is loudest around 30-45 mph and always loudest under acceleration.

It's been in the 30s. The sound is identical to a small car when it's backing up. The faster you go the louder it gets.

I guess it's time to just take it in.

Thanks again for all the posts

Middlet

did you ever find out what the whine was? Mine seems to have just started having the same problem. I asked about it being the alternator bearing and was disagreed with because it only makes the noise during acceleration.

Default Holy old thread lol

Remove the sepentine belt and run the engine. If the noise goes away, look for a pulley bearing that's bad

you can also use a long handled screwdriver as an engine "stethescope" to check for odd sounds. place the end of the screwdriver on the suspect engine part while the motor is running and the other end up to your ear. you can pinpoint some bearing failures this way
