The whine begins
got an 06 xlt 4x4, just started a variable whine in 2nd and third maybe more but drowns out at highway speed. got laess than 2k left on powertrain warrenty and would like to here if anyone else has delt with this before going to the dealership.

You already know the answer....take it in to the dealership while you have the warrantee. A whine in the drivetrain can be many things; U-joints, wheel bearings, rear-end, transfer case, etc.
You are lucky to syill have the warrantee; take advantage of it.

Dealership has it, first tried to say wheel bearing, didnt add up thanks to having read other posts. I pushed to investigate furthur, they finally settled on a bearing in trans - long story short they'll have the truck a week or so and more than likely putting in a new transmission. Thankfully I caught it before the 60K mark.
