Mine does the same thing but ONLY WHEN ITS COLD OUTSIDE! even after the motor warms up, it will do it off and on. I used to have an Escape that did the same thing. No idea what it is. drives me crazy....

I can't remember what it was but there is a sticky on this subject. My '06 STX has done that since new and only when it's cold out. I do remember that it wasn't a big deal like a small leak around a vac line or something but don't mark my words on that diagnosis
