Default '04 5.4l "ECT" where is it located?

I keep getting a code of P0119 on my '04 5.4L. I know that it says the ECT is intermittent or bad. Problem is, wheres it located???? I know where the CHT is under the intake plenum, but not sure where the other is. I've seen a post that says the later years after '03 don't use them, but why would mine send the code if it doesn't have one and I have seen my temp gauge sometimes works/doesn't work. So, could anyone clear this up for me??? I feelin' kinda confused and stupid right now!

Default Answer

I got the answer to my question. The ECT is no longer used with the 5.4L engine. It is done by the CHT and the PCM. The PCM takes a reading from the CHT and makes an adjustment from there to signal the temperature gauge in the cluster. So, I'm replacing my CHT which is located under the intake plenum in the side go the passengers side head. What a bummer! Recommendation: replace any other sensors or common wear items like the thermostat while you are there since you have thru a whole lot of to get to the sensor. I went ahead and replaced my thermostat, intake gasket set, CHT sensor, injector seals, and did a full cleaning of the intake plenum, throttle body, and intake runners of the head. Make the best of the situation and do as much preventative maintenance as you can while your there. I also changed my antifreeze and did a fresh oil change for safety.

Default Happy days again!

Just wanted to let all know that I have her done and have driving her for almost a week now. She has had no issues, codes, faulty gauges or any sort of problem.
She's running great just like she should and I hope that this thread will be able to help someone else with my issue in the future!

Thanks again for all your help F150forum!
