Default Emission test

Another tuner question, bear with me......
Recently I took my truck to the state emission testing station.
They plug into the obd port and run a scan, check for codes, etc.
Can they tell a tuner had been of the truck if the truck is returned to stock?
I am guessing that the tuner returns your truck back to the way it was
before the tuner was installed, complete with any memory it had saved.
Tell me if I am wrong.

I don't know about your state, but here, they don't care what you have as long as a cat is under the vehicle and no emission codes are stored in the computer. Does your state have other requirements? If you do not know, stop by and ask the operator.

They can't tell that you have a tuner unless you recently switched tunes or went back to stock. That will cause a p1000 and they may not test vehicle. Even then it just looks like the battery was disconnected. Just takes a few drive cycles to clear that up. It shouldn't matter if you have a tuner or not as long all of the OBD test come back withing range. Most tuners will ask if the vehicle will have to pass emissions test when they are writing your tune.
