Apparently there are two "powertrain" engine rebuilding companies.

Im guessing that by "out the door" he means that 5462.00 was the price for the engine and install.

That is a great price then. The reason I asked was because I talked to an independent shop and they looked up the procedure time and it was 28 hours, if I remember right. In then end they were only $500 cheaper then the dealership but only had a 1 yr/12k warranty.

On the bucking issue. I just solved this in my truck. Change out the spark plugs but more importantly, also change out the COP insulators ($30 set). When they get old the spark will jump through the rubber to the head and cause the bucking.

Oddly enough the bucking has stopped. that doesnt mean its fixed and I should probably change out the COP anyways. I did the phasers last year and that solved that but I am still getting a tick, tick, tick Im thinking its either the lifters or valves... either way Im just going to ride it out like that until the engine goes since I have 193k on this engine anyway. So I just thought I would start searching for places to get a crate engine.

correct motor was 3149.00. 1700.00 labor the rest was for the add on parts. Could have saved 200 if my AC would have been good.

This shop was the preferred installer for Jasper engines. Jasper is basically local to me. But Thier high price and customer satisfaction was that great over the last couple years.

Looking at reman engine suppliers for a '04 F150 5.4l. Anyone use Fraser Engines? Any feedback? They're close to me and they can supply the engine AND install it. Like the idea of one-stop shopping.
