Default Whats up with the 4WD?

I have a 06 f150 the 4wd light comes on and the front diff locks but the T-case won’t engage. I tapped the shift motor with a hammer and it locked the T-case. I drove it down the snow covered street it was good. I did a u turn and herd a thud and it disengaged. I jacked up the rear end. Put it in gear in 4wd and it didn’t move forward. There is a grinding sound (plastic not metal grinding) when the brake is released the rear wheels spin while jacked up. I think it’s the shifter motor but not sure. Anyone had this happen?
