what oil? 5.4 3v with 185000 miles
I just got done installing lockouts for my phasers and iron chain tensioners for my timing chains. Truck is back together and running good but I want to change the oil tomorrow. I really don't think 5w20 is thick enough oil. my truck has locked phasers and a hundred eighty five thousand miles are on the engine. I do plan on using a Motorcraft filter but as far as oil goes I'm not sure what I should put on it. any suggestions would be great and an explanation of why that specific oil would be better than the 5w 20. Thanks

A lot of people have switched to 5w30 for this very reason. Many threads on that. However, since you've installed the lockouts on your phasers, it might not be needed. I personally prefer the 5w30 in mine as it runs nice and quiet on it. I think if you run any quality brand synthetic oil in either weight it will be fine for your truck. Good luck, hope she runs for another 100K with your new timing components.
