What to look for - 2007 f150 4x4 Lariat supercrew - 1 step away
i joined this forum as i was interested in a F150.
just came across a 2007 F150 4*4 lariat with 47000K/29000miles.
i have only seen pictures but was informed that the vehicle is in excellent condition, was driven by a 50 year old guy as his extra luxury vehicle. no chips, cracks in window, dings, etc. if i was to buy it i will have 1 month of bumper to bumper warranty and 2more years of power-train warranty
when looking over the vehicle what are some of the things that i should look for either before warranty expires or things that this vehicle is known to have problems with (other than sparkplugs).

Make sure there is no exhaust leak "ticking" on the exhaust manifolds. This will be really noticeable on a cold startup, or under acceleration. Also, check underneath real well for any oil seeping, most notably on the rear pinion seal, and rear output seal at the transfer case. Check for a seep where the oil filter housing mounts to the block, or worse yet, a seep at the rear main seal. Just generally have a real good look at the underside with a good light. Make sure the 4x4 engages/disengages well, as the IWE's at the front hubs can be a problem spot.

The exhaust manifold in these trucks tend to warp over time, the passenger side being most common. Or possibly the gasket can be bad, or a manifold bolt may have actually broken. Have someone do a cold start on it, and listen closely around the wheel well areas. Sometimes there may be a "soot trail" you can actually see around the manifold/block area. Not always though. These d**n exhaust leaks can be hard to dignose. The ticking noise in mine would go away after idling for about 10-20 seconds, as the metals expand and can close up the area. Then it's only noticable on acceleration.
