The reason I do it is because I can. Its my motor and I will put in it what I want when I want. I have NEVER!!!! had a motor sludge or sieze on me. It seems to work, so why not keep doin it. It costs me 20.00 more to do a Synthetic LOF. Do the math. If it costs 40 in a shop to do a regular and 60 to do a synthetic that lasts longer then you have actually saved money. At my shop a regular oil change is 48.00 after tax and synthetic is 68.00 if the first 3k costs (using round numbers) 50.00 that is .017 cents a mile and a synthetic at 70.00 per change at 5000 miles costs .014 cents a mile..Which is really cheaper.. Don't you think I have done the math. Plus synthetic oil will not break down as fast, so yes I can go longer even though I don't like to. You can do whatever you want with your motor and your money.

Default Now see....

That is an intelligent answer. I wasn't being accusatory, I was just asking.
I use Castrol, and always have. Just like you said, I haven't had a motor problem either. But I like tinkering with the fluids-motor-wipers-and et.al. every 5K miles 'cause it keeps you on top of pending problems. I do 5K simply 'cause it is easy to remember.

I have often been tempted to do the synthetic thing and go extended periods on the oil thing, but I would still have to spend time doing all the other things and it wouldn't really be a time saver. And I figure why change what works.

I have a friend that does the Amsoil thing, and he too swears by it. He moved from N.Dakota and used synthetic due to extreme cold. He too says no motor failures. Once a year and only a filter in the middle.

Question I have a question....

If I did the Mobil 1 syn thing and went the extended mileage, say just 15K on the interim, would that void my warranty?

Maybe I should ignore you... you seem to have problems with english.
Perhaps the heat has got to your brain...
whoa whoa whoa! don't get your panties in a wad! My post saying "ignore this post" was not directed at you, I accidentally double posted and then edited to say ignore my post. I didnt say ignore wesbilly's post did I...

and if by heat you mean the below zero temps we have been getting then yes it is getting to my brain

It seems there was a little misunderstanding here....I wasn't trying to be a dick I promise

The way you worded your previous post, you made it seem like the cheaper stuff is just as good as the synthetic stuff since it has passed the rating system....actually that is basically what you said.

i use the same stuff except 5w20 and the fram filters. change it every 3000 miles, whether it needs it or not. 40000 miles now and still going strong.

fram filters SUCK. If you are gonna use a low cost filter use a Wix.. Other than that use K&N oil filter or a Motorcraft. My wife is a parts person. She even says Fram sucks and Wix is ALOT better.

I had every intension of changing the oil on my 95 F150 with the 5.0L V8 to
Royal Purple I went to the local outfit that carries it and it is $7.48 dollars a quart, damn!, My truck has 154,000 miles on it. It doesn't appear to use oil.
but I wonder if it is worth paying this much for oil.
