what gear ratios....
I still have the original 3.55:1 gears in my 2005 4.6L 2wd s/c. With the intake and exhaust mods it feels much better, but still isn't able to overcome the excess weight of itself.
I eventually plan to buy a programmer, then probably a set of gears. I am thinking that a 3.90:1 ratio would be a good choice between the stock ratio, and 4.10's and allow the engine to still remain in a moderate RPM range in daily commute.
Has anyone out there changed gears; and how well has it worked out for you with the ratio you have chosen?
Would I be better off just doing the programmer at a higher setting and leaving the gearing alone so as to retain the ability to have higher MPG on the highway?

The programmer isnt goin to give you better gas mileage, but 4.10's is a great way to get a little bit of pep outta your 4.6. 4.10 is also still conservative enough to retain some of your highway milelage.

from my readings of reporting of gears with befores/afters 4.10s are a mistake most make, if you want a performance feel get 4.56 as the job is very labor intensive and you dont want to pay 2 times.
