Added fog lights to my XL...Pics included
I've been wanting to add fog lights to my 08 XL since I bought it, and finally got around to doing it. There aren't a whole lot of good places to mount aftermarket lights on the front of an XL, so I had the idea to do something similar to the previous generation Super Duty, in the rectanglish opening in the metal bumper.
Now, I can't take credit for the final execution, as that is the product of kalealmighty. I saw his setup, and it was exactly what I wanted, so I asked him how he did it and he was kind enough to let me know the kind of lights he used and how he mounted them. So, kale, big thanks I believe this is the 5th set of fog lights I've installed on various vehicles over the years, and this set was by far the easiest. Only took a few hours total, over the course of 3 days (because of work and it getting dark so damn early now), with one helper for most of the wiring. Could be done faster I'm sure, but I'm a perfectionist and have to analyze and double check everything, so any installation typically takes me longer.
Check out the pictures I've attached, even though they're not the best. I really like them, I think they help the truck look more aggressive at night, but they're not overly obvious. Additonally, they're not knock off 'hyperwhite' junk like most aftermarket fogs these days.
The lights are Hella 550 driving lights. They're bigger than the opening in the bumper and the license plate blocks the edges, so not all of the light shines out. I want to mount the license plate lower, but haven't had time to tinker with it to figure how how I can accomplish that. Additionally, their aim is partially restricted by pieces of the frame, so they point towards the same spot at the center, and I currently have them pointed down only maybe 10' in front of the truck. Still, they're bright as hell, as the really improve the light directly in front and to the sides.
Let me know what you think.

Oh, and here's what I did with the switch. It's wired to the parking lights, so no worries about leaving the fogs on accidentally. Got green so that it would match the rest of the gauges.
I had wanted to use a stock headlight selector with the fog light switch and wire things up that way, but I couldn't find one for less than $80, so I just installed this toggle next to the headlight selector. I'm amazed that it fit, there's very little space there, but I was able to squeeze it in. I think it looks pretty good, would be better if the securing ring was black, but it's about as good as an aftermarket switch gets. And, if I find a stock selector with fogs, I drilled the hole in a very easy to replace piece.

looks similar to mine, but ive got some cheap walmart lights in mine, the previuos owner actually made cuts in the bumper and mine are closer together actually touching, i dont ever use them, mostly for looks i might adjust them and get them to be at a useful aim but my stock lights do about everything i need them too
