What to do with my 2007 5.4 L
PLEASE HELP.
I'm new on the site. I don't mean to exhaust the conversation about the problems with the 5.4L V8 in several years of F-150 pickups. I had no idea until my truck started acting up and I went online yesterday and read about problem after problem, story after story.
I'm looking for advice/opinion:
I own a 2007 5.4 L XLT, it has 186,000 kms. It had to be towed after having a bad start in the cold. The cam timing is off, it shakes badly. The error codes include P0022 (Cam timing), P0305 and P0307 (misfire). It's not in highway driving shape by any means, it runs rough and does not accelerate properly now.
Do I buy the cam phaser rebuild kit ($600).
Or could my engine be far past repair since its already damaged and the kit does nothing.
I've read some say to not even bother. They say to just move on, it needs a new engine.
Please advise
Thanks!

Amazon.com: Ford 5.4L 3V Camshaft Drive Phaser Repair Kit - Phaser Sprockets, Tensioners, Guides, Chains Kit: Automotive
New guides, chains, phasers etc, and pay to replace them for around $1000 labor. Or could my engine be far past repair since its already damaged and the kit does nothing.

Pull the valve covers off and check the condition of the camshaft and the cam journals. If they are fine, then replace the timing parts (don't forget about the VCT solenoids), and enjoy. If they are badly scored, then think about replacing the motor.

Pull valve covers, if cams look good, then replace all the front components with that kit. It's what i did. Just keep the clips in the tensioners when u get them until you are done. Then pull them before reassembly.
