Default what did everyone do/use to tint tailights?

Im searching on ebay right now, trying to find some tinted tail lights, and all Im finding are altezza or LED lights. I dont want to paint them, but living in North Dakota, where the temps get down to 30 below at times, Im scared the film style isn't going to withstand that. And I dont want LED's or the altezza's. What has everyone else done?

Most people use VHT Niteshade for the tails. I've used Testor's Black window tint spray also that's made for model cars. They both work just fine. It's easier to find the VHT most of the time though.

Yeah. I just got done doing my 3rd brake light with night shades and about 10 coats of clear. It looks almost like glass. I'd stick to no more than three coats of Niteshades though to be safe.

forgot to add, you can get it at one of your local autoshops too, autozone didn't have it but Oreilly's did, and I'm sure PEPboys too.

Yea, thats what i just checked on, and oreilly's has it. Its not too dark is it? I just want like a 35% tint. And I plan to leave the reverse light clear. Whats the prep on the lights? I should have done this today, since it was my day off during the week.

You control the darkness. Just watch how many coats you apply and the thickness of each coat. Like most things you paint, several lighter coats are better then one thick coat.

thanks for the info guys. I guess I never thought of the clear coat. DUH! I went and bought the VHT, and some dupli-color clear coat. Going to tint them this coming sunday. Thanks again. It was very helpful!!
