Yes it is true i've seen it happen a lot. I have also heard that you should let the truck sit over night with out running so the plugs can cool all the way, I think someone posted on here before and got them all off with out braking them.

use penetraiting oil on them first and let them sit over night and you should use motorcraft plug all the ones we work on that have other plugs in don't last but maybe 50.000 miles

wouldn't this be a general 5.4 problem? Doesn't that mean that mustang owners have the same issue? or is their design better and they don't have that spark plug issue. I've heard about this in the trucks and makes me worry about ruining my truck.

The Mustang 4.6 had a different Spark Plug issue as did the 5.4 motors (don't recall the whole problem, but you can find a lot of info on it). There were only 3 threads holding the plug. I had a 99 GT and the issue was that if the plugs were changed and not torqued correctly, they would loosen enough and blow the plug out taking the remaining threads with them. Happened to my GT. When it blew out it took a bunch of things with it, fuel rail stopped it from denting the hood.

I believe the problem was first noted in the 5.4 motor on RVs, they actually sold a plug insert so if it happened, it would get you a few miles to the nearest delearship to have it repaired.

I've actually been concerned with my truck with this issue and didn't realize the 5.4 actually broke the plugs (until I found this forum) and I know I'm due to change plugs on my 05.

I'm kinda worried about this also because I don't know the last time they were changed and it's a 2000 with 108K miles and its a 5.4. I don't want to take it to a shop just to change the plugs

I don't believe the 2000 model had issues with spark plugs. Problem started with the 2004 3v motors. Use the search function on this forum and you will find tons of info on it.

i changed mine with 110.000 and didnt have any problems but you do need a spark plug sockey a two inch extension,a wabble( maybe two) and anothe six or 8 inch extension for the #4 cylinder passenger rear
