Dont Tread On Me
I have two boys and would never put them or my lovely lady in a tiny car over a truck.
Sell the car, put money towards loan on truck and then refi the lower amount.

I owe about 16k on the truck and the dealership is giving me 10k for it (what a battle that was) I have another car I am selling for right around 5k and then using that towards the car. So worst case I will have right around 1 to 2 thousand of overage. Not too terrible

Financially that sounds like a horrible plan.... But good luck on whatever you feel the need to do. I guess it will look like you are spending less $ monthly, but you are loosing $6k on the truck and getting rid of another vehicle for $5k. Thats a ton of gas there man!

Seriously, take that $5k car and get another $5k car that gets good gas mileage and keep the truck. Does the car you currently have really get that bad of mileage? This underwater crap is so hard to get out from under.
This sounds like some kind of wifey power play for a new vehicle, or maybe some insecurities about having the new baby and needing a new and safe and reliable vehicle.
You're gonna regret losing this truck, personally and financially, for what sounds like no good reason.

Just thinking about this some more, since it reminds me of some of my own bad luck with cars. That Sonic is gonna depreciate like mad and you'll likely wind up upside down on it immediately as well. You should add up the mileage differences and see how long it's gonna take the Sonic to overcome the $1-2k deficit you'll find yourself in based on current gas prices. I bet it'll take a few years to balance out. Is it worth getting rid of your truck to save yourself a couple grand in gas spread over 5 or 6 years?

Sorry to just keep on blabbing, but did you try out car seats in the back of the Sonic? Does a rear-facing infant one fit? What about the giant convertible ones he/she will need in a couple of years? What if you have another kid or two? Will they be able to buckle themselves? Can you fit a stroller and all the rest of your stuff in the trunk? That Sonic will be too small and you'll be upside down on it, too, and stuck again. It'll cost you another few thousand to get out from under that one.

If you do go the Sonic route, which is a small *** car, I'd highly suggest going used and not new. As stated the value drops almost in half the first year with a car like that.
