Default Weird sound under load

So I just picked up an 06 Screw a few weeks ago. It has 80k miles and just had a full tune up. I have noticed on the freeway in overdrive at about 60 mph if I acclerate lightly I get a loud rattling sound, if I hit the overdrive switch or give more throttle the noise goes away. I dont hear any noise if I just rev it in park or at other speeds. I tried to make a video but the camera wouldn't pick up the noise with the windows up and the wind noise makes it hard to hear with the windows down...

Luckily I did buy the Ford Esp but I am just trying to get an idea of what it could be before I take it in...

Are you asking it to kick out of overdrive and THEN hearing this sound? Or is it doing it still in OD?

When my 06 is in drive and I'm idling at a red light, I hear a rattle from the engine compartment or under the dash, not sure. But as soon as I give it some gas and bring it up to any rpm higher than an idle it goes away. Does it sound like a rattle? I thought cam phasers at first, but mine are pretty quiet and its not doing it at the typical 'cam phaser rpm' range. I'm in on this thread, I'm curious if you have the same issue as me?

It seems to only happen in overdrive when slowly accelerating. Once it kicks down the noise goes away or if I give more throttle and maintain 70 instead of 60 the noise goes away even though its still in od.

I have the same problem...mostly at highway speeds and low RPM's. If the cruise control is on and I'm going up a slight incline, it's pretty noticeable inside the cab with the windows up, and clear as day/loud as hell with the windows down when you're next to the Jersey barrier.

I haven't done much diagnosing of it yet so I can't offer any advice...

Yep it is more noticeable when going up inclines or overpasses. I can hear mine with the windows up if the radio is low but windows down and it's loud. I was kind of thinking IWE because it sounds like its comin from that area, but the 4wd works fine and it seems like it would do it at all speeds. I will take it to the dealer when I get a chance and let you know.

Does it sound like pinging (spark knock) only on a much louder sound level?

You most likely have a vacuum leak somewhere in the 4x4 system then or your iwe solenoid needs to be replaced. Which is part of the 4x4 system. There is a very good write up about diagnosing vacuum leaks somewhere on this site. Definitely do it soon and get yourself a good vacuum pump with a gauge as well. I made the mistake of not getting a pump and trying to guess what my problem was by throwing money at the problem. That is of course if you feel like fixing the problem yourself.
