After pulling my dash off to paint it, I could see where the leak was coming from. i tried to put silicone over it but had to rip it off because this is where the kick panel clips in. so i just took a drill bit and drilled a few holes. heres a picture of where its leaking from. its the long hole that the tip of the screwdriver is sitting in.

Any ideas?
Your heater core could be leaking.. Does it smell like antifreeze or is it just water?

well if its just water it could be your ac. I had the same problem on my old ranger and it had to do with the ac cuz the sweat from the condenser would trickle down into the floorboard.. have you noticed if it gets worse when you use the ac or not? if it gets worse its almost gaurenteed its the ac.. hope this helps

Default water problem

I have a 04 sc expedition f-150 4wd 5.4 that had the same problem when I first bought it. This is what the dealer initially inspected: heater core, all drains, removed glove box and inspected body seams for leaks, removed passenger seat assembly pulled back carpet, inspected, removed door seal plate & checked for damage. Traced back to C PILLAR area, Traced back to body creese. REMOVED THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND FOUND THE SEAL WAS BAD. Replaced seal and all is good.

*You might also want to check the exterior light above the cab. (the one that lights up your bed) That was a contributing factor in my case.

What you should know. Your carpet and padding were wet. If you plan on keeping your truck you will need to replace both of them. I bought the extended warranty so it was covered. They were not real exited about the idea initially but you can't argue with the facts. Wet carpet = Wet padding= Mold. Basic science.

We all know that in these cases it could be any number of things that are contributing to your water problem. All I can say is there is a very good chance you are eventually going to find your leak if you take your time and do this methodically.

If you did not buy the extended warranty, please take advantage of someone who did. People can say whatever they want about extended warranties, I still buy them. (personally I think its a load of *&%^ when a manufacturer can't stand behind their product, especially a new one) This is one time when it was worth it.

In closing I would suggest several things:

1.) Take advantage of the warranty that I bought. I have detailed above, in sequence, the procedure that Ford mechanics follow to find your leak.
2.) Again, if your carpet was wet, chances are, so was your padding. Unless you like the way mold smells you will need to replace both.

Good luck.

By the way. It took them two weeks to find the problem, and a week to change the carpet and pads.

Default Passenger floorboard wet.

Rainman, in your 16 Apr 09, 1246 post, you have a pic with the screwdriver pointing to where the water was entering the truck, did you find out how the water was getting to that point?

I have an 05' FX4 supercab and the passenger carpet is soaked. I checked the A/C orifice tube, it's not clogged. It does not smell like antifreeze and it's clear, so I am sure it's just water. It would appear I have a bad "seam" somewhere as mentioned in other posts. Does anyone know if I can access the problem seam if I remove the right front fender? Thanks.

i did not figure out how the water was getting to that point. i would have to pull the fender off to see it and i wasnt trying to do all that. i just drilled a few holes in the channel under that little step plate so it can fill up with water and overflow into the carpet.

Default Still searching for source of water...

1. I checked the third brake light, good seal, even sprayed it with the hose for five minutes, pull it and all dry underneath. Plus, there never was any stains on the headline.

Pull the kick panel and the runner covering the wiring harness running the length of the doors. I could tell from watermarks that there had been water in the channel for some time. Pulled the carpet up and it was pretty wet.

2. I ran water over the cowling and the roof for some time, I looked into the channel with a flashlight, as indicated by Rainman with his screwdriver pic,.......no water. It looked like it had never been wet inside the channel.

I left the rug pulled/propped up to get it dried out. It rained today and I looked after it was done raining.......no water anywhere.

3. I ran the A/C on the way home from work (20 min), checked when I got home.......no water.

Not sure what to check at this point, don't really want to pull the fender just to look since I never did see any water coming through the door channel but the water has to be coming from somewhere. The only thing I could think of was that I always keep the dash vents on the passenger side closed since nobody ever rides there..........I wonder that since I keep those vents closed and had been running the A/C a lot, would condensation form on the backside of the dash due to the closed vents and run down into the carpet? Could there be that much condensation? I know down here in the south, you can just about soak your table with a cold glass of iced tea....ha ha ha. Any thoughts would be appreciated before I get bent over by the dealer.

If it is wet from the step plate in going toword the middle of truck on driver side it might be the casket around ele conector for door on the B piler . It will leak in and fill the rocker channel with water and driving around it splashes up and the carpet insulation sokes it up and pull it in . Pull up step plate if it is full of water move the parking break cable boot and let water drain then dry area with air or rags then close the door take a garden hose and run it around the bottom of window piller and around top of the cap between door& fender. then let set for 15 min and check if . The reason you have to wait is that water has to travel thru double metal of B piller and the factory body chalk . Well if it wet then you know . The AC drain is the passenger side . And yes this should be under warrenty.
Good Luck.
