Default Water leak in cab?

I have an '04 Lariet extended cab. We got a little bit of rain in Houston over the past two days and I opened the door one morning to find water droplets all over the center of the backseat AND on top of the backrest of the backseat, which tells me the water came in from above.

Anyone else run into this problem? The only place I can fathom it came from is the weatherstripping on the back window or the truck bed light penetration through the roof. I have a motorized sliding back window which hasn't worked in a while. I now suspect the water leak is what fried that system.

Any help is appreciated!

It is most likely coming from the third brake light outside the cab. My 2008 did this and it is a pretty common problem with these trucks. Ford has supposedly redesigned the gasket for this light but I just bought some RTV and sealed it myself, has not happened since i did this.

A little bit of rain? Some places here in Texas have had 9 inches...

I'm also betting on that outside third brake light/bed light. A search here will show you this is a common problem. I'd buy the upgraded gasket from Ford, then re-install with a small bead (1/4 inch or less) of silicone (let it set a few minutes; otherwise it acts like super glue if you ever were to remove that light again to change a bulb).

I can see some moisture in mine, but it has not caused a leak (yet) inside my cab. However, after the rains we've been getting here in Texas, I better check it often this week!

Yeah, my vote is that it's most likely your 3rd Brake light. Mine got jarred slightly when some snow slid off this winter and started leaking. Make sure to use RTV, not bath silicone.... RTV is designed to be paint friendly and not eat the paint.

my son's 04 was leaking thru the 3rd light and i suspect it was vibration from the subs he installed. Anyway, he was in a hailstorm last week and the exterior light now has a hole in it. I bought a new 3rd brake light assembly but does anyone have an idea of how to install the new one. The wiring assembly is well up inside the cab below the headliner and very difficult to access. This is on a 04 regular cab. Thanks!!

RTV that gasket and you should be fine. My 2002 did the same thing after I installed my XM antenna and used it as an access point. I simply sealed it up and now no leaks for over 4 years.

in my case the hail put a quarter size hole(s) in the outside assembly. So i need to replace the whole piece. Any ideas how to reach the wire clip to allow installation of new assembly? thanks.

Man, I couldn't imagine it being too far inside the roof. Should be a straight forward swap.
