Video of bad IWE's
Earlier today I put a camera on the upper control arm of my 2006 F-150 to record the IWE's grinding, and thought I would share the videos. The CV shaft on the side with the bad IWE does turn at slow speeds, causing the opposite one to spin the opposite way (open diff in front), and I wanted to make sure that this wasn't happening at higher speeds, luckily it wasn't, just a lot of grinding
Looks like its time for a new set of IWE's and a solenoid

Mine has sounds the same only on the driver side but it's only happened 2xs in the last 2 months when I was coasting to a stop at about 20-25 mph. I pretty much only engage my 4x4 once or twice a year and when I does make that sound it's only for about 5 seconds am goes away. Have you replaced yours and if so where did you get it from and what was the price ?

I haven't replaced them yet, I'm going to get the employee pricing from the dealership I work at and see if its cheaper to buy from there or the internet. I'll let you know the price. Not only does this IWE grind, but in 4x4 it will disengage at WOT, so I have to keep off the throttle all the time. Its extremely annoying. Mine also only grinds at 20-25 MPH then it goes away unless I hit a bump. Then it will grind for about a second and go away again.

Yea that's annoying just listening to it.

The crappy camera and brand new duratracs don't help with the sound, but I wasn't gonna risk a good camera on my UCA, or take my duratracs off . The stealership quoted me $212.46 on a new set of IWEs, so I just bought a solenoid for $40, put it on and made a cover so it doesn't get wet. I haven't heard it grind yet and I can go WOT in 4x4 without one of the IWEs disengaging. So far so good, but I'm probably still gonna buy a new set of IWEs and new CV shafts.
