Funny that this was brought up. I think it is the tires. I just put new ones on mine, and it hasnt acted up at all. Although putting new fluids in isnt a bad idea but bald tires really dont help the situation.

Had the same problem In my truck, change the rear differential fluid an add non-slip additive.

May be the tires, but with 108K on the rear end fluid, he's way overdue for rear end service. I'd get that fluid changed as well as new tires.
