Vibration after universal joint replacement
Recently had a shop replace the universal joints in my front drive (4x4) shaft.
The U-joint was clearly bad with about 1/8" movement when pushed side to side.
Even with the bad joint the truck drove smooth.
Now that the joints have been replaced I have a bad vibration at 60 MPH almost not drivable.
Question is this; could the drive shaft have been bad or out of balance prior to the joint replacement and somehow been buffered by the bad joint?
This makes no sense to me but not sure what to expect from the shop when I take it back.
I think they either damaged or distorted the shaft or yoke or did not mark the assembly sequence properly so they put it back together incorrectly.
Any feed back would be appreciated, I want to know what I am talking about when I go to the shop tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks in advance for your time and comments.

Very likely they forgot step one of changing a U-joint: Mark where the driveshaft was.
If the driveshaft isn't put back in the way it came out, you could have balance issues.

Now you will never get it right...

It's also possible the shop that replaced the u-joints pinched a needle bearing (or had one or more drop out) when installing the new u-joints to the drive shaft. Or you just got a bad u-joint.
In any event, take it back to the shop that did the work and have them correct their apparent problem.

I took it back and they told me the tires needed balanced total B/S).
I asked the manager to drive the truck and he confirmed its not tires, they are keeping it another night.
I think the shaft has bolt flanges at each end. Can the truck be driven if the shaft is removed?
If this is possible it will confirm the shaft is the problem.

You can drive the truck without that shaft with no issues whatsoever.
