VCT Solenoid Replacement Success
#72
I know this thread is like 6 months old but I figured it would be a good one to post a success or no change story for my 06 f150. Its got about 169k on it right now. Truck runs great and still has good power however it does have some dieseling going on at idle. Also it has random loud ticks every now and again when its idling and when im driving (sounds like the ac clutch engaging and disengaging) but I dont have the ac on. Anyway my new VCT solenoids and seals should come in either this weekend or by next week Monday and I will post a before and after vid for you all.
And I read how some people ask if replacing the VCTs to the revised style would be a good precautionary measure, in my opinion I would say so, ford has already altered the design of these things twice so there has got to be something wrong with the first design. Atleast for us 04-06 owners as cost and replacement of these things are relatively cheap and easy to do. I will update when the new ones are installed.
Thanks,
Nick

My 2007 (built in 12/06 thank goodness) has a sewing machine sound... Think this could be the cure... It's kind of ticking noise but sounds just like a sewing machine.

I just replaced what I assume was a completely stuck VCT solenoid. I was told by Ford that this was a major issue with either the Cam Phasers, timing chain, tensioners, etc and that it wasn't worth opening the motor to fix. I even inquired about the possibility of a VCT solenoid fix being a possible, solution, and I was "assured" that it would not help the 16 engine codes I was throwing, and the best option was a new motor. Others on this forum urged me to swap the VCT solenoids myself which I just did, and the truck is like brand new again.
Is this something I should expect to do more often now or could there be damage from it running so poorly with the bad VCT?
