Default VCT Solenoid Replacement Success

Figured I'd share my success story. Mostly with the help of my experienced mechanic friend, I got my VCT solenoids replaced. You might remember I posted a few videos where it sounded like it was about to grenade. I came across a TSB that described the exact symptoms I was having and the solution was to replace VCT solenoids. I knew that had to be the problem because that was the only symptom I was having. Nothing more was wrong. And what do you know, I replaced them and it's fixed.

It's not a hard job, just a stupid job! So much BS in the way just to remove the valve covers. Like evac and recharge the A/C. The stupid 18mm head bolt that holds the transmission dipstick tube in. WTF?! Having to remove the front driveshaft to get the oil dipstick tube out. Another WTF. Then punched a hole in it getting it out but was able to braze it up. So the side that was supposed to be the easiest actually took the longest, lol. Few beers and mixed drinks later, it was all done.

Back when I had a Mustang, guys would replace these without taking the valve covers off. I thought that was also possible with the F150?

I changed mine without taking off the cover it was easy took me like 25 mins and most of that was on the drivers side (damn steering fluid fill). It was harder for me to find a long thin t27 driver. Unfortunately it didn't stop the diesel sound in my truck it still does it but only when hot at operating temp 180 degrees F, no sooner. But the truck runs like a champ ill worry about it when I have enough money to do something about it.

Starting in 07 you have to take the valve covers off.

That's a good write-up. I had a hell of a time with the VCT seal when I removed the valve covers on my Mustang. I'd have an extra pair on-hand when trying to pry them out with the valve cover still installed.
