Default Is a Used Tuner a Bad Idea

I found a local guy selling an SCT Excalibur2, CAI ,and Magnaflow exhaust with about 10,000 miles on it. Is it a bad idea to use this on a different truck. The basics match. 04 5.4 though mine is a scab instead of a screw and I dont know what gear he had or if it makes a difference. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Yes and No.

A tuner once used, is locked to that specific vehicle. You can retune it with the same programmer and return it to stock and the tuner then can be used on another car.

But if it's locked to his truck, and you buy it, you have to go to the manufacturer to get them to unlock it and it costs money, round $100 I think plus a ton of hassel.

But you can also go on SCT's webpage and follow the steps to see if it's locked to his truck or not when you go look at it. The gears wont make a difference as you can adjust that setting within the programmer....

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot that does help. I found the X2 tuner, Magnaflow cat back and a CAI for 400 bucks. If it is as good as it looks I got a steal.

the xcal2 is a bit more stable. the initial x3's had a few misc failures out of the factory as SCT rushed them due to a lot of advertising. the xcal2 is a very stable and reliable platform that will suit him just fine. if he is being budgetary, thats cool, it will suit his needs.

all of this being said, i have both xcal tuners. the 2 for my car and the 3 for my truck.

you shouldnt have any problems with the CAI or the tuner as long as it inst vin locked. the exhaust might have a problems since it is from a SCREW not a SCAB. i would check the fitment out before i buy it though.
