Where exactly are you drilling these holes? I bought a set of used OEMs off of a 2006 as well and I was going with a slightly different approach as to how I think you are thinking of. I took the factory clips out of the flares and I will be using self tappers on the bottom to drill up into the lip of the fender instead of putting holes straight through the fender. I was also thinking about adding strips of 3M tape on the tabs to keep it tight to the top of the fender. They should stay pretty tight to the body.

I took mine off my fx4 and painted them, I put them back on the same way they came off, no 3m tape. They are not stuck perfectly against the truck but I wasn't sure what to do about it.

im gonna drill the holes in the lip as well and take off the clips. im thinking of using white plastic push rivets to match the flare. ok maybe ill do that and take the flares off every spring to clean the fender. dont want rust!!!

1BD9D7 Do you have the pre drilled holes in the side of the fender?

Yes there are holes in the fender lips for the Christmas tree plugs to push into, and there are small screws on the bottom of each flare.
