I wouldnt touch a 03-06 Expedition if my life depended on it. Total junk vehicles.

Well you are certianaly entitled to your opinion, I assume it is based on a bad experience.

We bought our first 1998, new, and drove it until 2006, put 129K on it and traded it towards the 2008 with 24K on it as a certified vehicle.

Drove it to 130K, lots of commute driving so I wanted the wife in something new, so we sold it and bought a new Edge.

Alternators in both, tires and brakes other than the fact that both at 100K started to use oil, were very good for us.

Just our experience.

The 03-06 are junk, that is the only years I wouldnt consider. The 07 EL Eddie Bauer 4x4 with air-ride that I currently own is an amazing vehicle. Currently has 120K and drives like a new vehicle.

What's so bad about them that makes them scrap metal? Not considering buying one but just curious...

As I was shopping for them, the list of issues with them kept growing and growing. My brother had an 05 and it was issue after issue. Electrical, transmission, engine, you name it. When you start looking for a certain vehicle (In my case an Expedition) I research and research. Granted the 5.4 3V is my biggest concern, I knew that with proper maintenance, these are good engines. But the early 5.4 3V seems to be the worst, so no 04-05 for me. Then I started reading internet reviews and quickly decided a 03-06 wasnt in the cards for me:
