updated radio and lost steering wheel controls
I updated my radio and lost the steering wheel controls... I put a radio from an 2008 F150 into my 2004 F150... Has anyone else did a similar swap or have any info on this issue???

Im no stereo expert, hopefully someone else chimes in but:
-for aftermarket radios, there is a wiring harness kit out there to integrate the wheel controls with the aftermarket radio....
-did the 08 radio/truck have steering wheel control functionality?
seems to me the radio, whether aftermarket or factory, must support these type of controls for it to recognize it.

If it was a factory 08 radio, it should work with the steering wheel controls.
I'll assume it's an aftermarket radio....as stated, you'll need to purchase a box/wiring harness to allow the steering wheel controls to work with a non factory radio.
You may want to visit the "Stereo/Audio" section of this site. A search will net you what you're looking for as far as part, part number, site link, and price.

OEM 08 radio
It is an OEM Ford Radio, which has the same plugs as my 04... 1 wide one on the bottom right rear as you look at the back of the radio, and then a smaller one more towards the center of the radio along the bottom. The only difference was the antenna plug, and I solved that issue with a reverse antenna adapter from Crutchfield.
I am going to pull it apart later tonight to make sure the rear plugs are all the way in.

I actually had time to check it out before dinner and still no steering wheel controls... What a bummer.
I am beginning to wonder if I have to have the controls programed for this radio??? I see many web sites in my search on "programing Ford radios".

I am not aware of any programming issues with factory radios....I figured that if you have the steering wheel with the radio volumn/station scan buttons that it would work with all factory radios.
I'd mosy over to the stereo/audio forum of this site to see if you can find more detail there.

For the steering controls to work you need a stereo from the same model year or you need to take it to the dealer and get robbed of 100 bucks to get it reprogrammed. On my 05 lariat, an 07 stereo didn't let me use the steering controls. I put in one from an 05 and it all works with no reprogramming.
