Thats nuts. I would tear it down and build it myself. Typically, boring and honing a block is about $25-$40 a cylinder. Crank grinding is about $60. Decking the block and heads is about $150. Then you just buy a rebuild kit and put it together yourself. Its all nuts and bolts.

If all you found was metal shavings, you probably didnt have a true catastrophic failure. I would look into a rebuild for sure.

I know thjis isnt the right kit,but its in the price range of what you need. I found out recently that sometimes you just gotta do it. I blew my boat motor up. Had it checked out. Got a price quote of at least $3700 to rebuild it. I found a marine machine shop. Had 1 cylinder sleeved, and the others bored out. Between that, the rebuild kit,and miscellaneous stuff,I have a whopping $800 in my motor.
Just a thought.

Great thread. ! Please keep us informed along the way. I have 3 trucks with the 5.4 and I'm sure I will be in the same situation one day. Your misfortune could really help some of us out later by what experiences you have along the way.
Good luck. Hope you end up with what you are looking for in the end results.

Glad you found a cheap solution.. if you were going to drop 4K I would start looking at alternative crate motors.
