well, turns out that its something internal, so the work should be done tomorrow sometime. i dont mind spend money to fix things, but do mind throwing away money on parts not worn. nevertheless, money needs to be spent anyway. thanks for the help everyone.

I just experienced a similar problem...my problem started as I was in cruise control going up a hill and it downshifted and man the rpm's just kept gaining and got up to 6K rpms before I depressed the brake to shut down the cruise. I made it almost all the way home (another 35 miles or so) and then the o/d light begain blinking and transmission malfunction text came up on the computer screen. Now it won't shift through any gear but 3rd and no reverse either? My truck only has 39K miles and it's not driven hard...is this a common problem for Ford Trucks? What a pain in the a**.

Any feedback will be appreciated. Bambo2888 what was your diagnosis? By the way, I was no where near mud or water when this happened...so I don't think it was related to that for Bambo either.

Thanks Smokestack, I just pulled my owners manual and warranty info and see that it is...question now is should I try to limp it in to them (about 10 miles away) or just have them come and pick it up. Towing should be covered too right?

Should be covered under factory warranty. You risk doing more damaging to your truck the more you drive it. If in doubt call they will tell you on the roadside # if its going to cost you anything. Couldn't be more than 50.00 to tow it 10 miles if they do charge you

Well I just heard from the dealership and they say the tranny is shot. Now waiting to hear if they are going to overhaul it themselves or bring in a new tranny. Anybody have any opinions on either situation?
