It would all be paid for in cash if done at all. I plan to live in Houston so engineering jobs aren't in short supply. There's several routes I want to go with the truck so I'm trying to narrow down the routes and pick one.

Boosting an engine is not as simple as slapping on a couple of turbos. Sure that engine can handle 7 to 10 pounds of boost but short of looking at a boost gauge what are your performance expectations? It is after all a 2.5 ton truck and a truck engine.

You can do it.. Just takes time, tools, and money..
You can twin by flipping the headers and pointing them towards the radiator..Make some adapters and mount 2 smaller turbos and start charge and discharge piping from there..
You will likely need EFans to really make twin turbos fit..
You could also Y the manifolds together and put a single larger turbo right on.. This way would be easier on the budget and piping..
Or you can remote mount which has been done..

Great read is even better on the turbo forums^
Good luck with the job hunt out in Houston..

Thanks! It's an adventure that's for sure.
As far as the saving, bills, etc. I'll be living with my brother and spending around $600/month in rent/utilities, truck insurance (not entirely sure on the number, could be way off) is around $600 every 6 months, phone bill (I'd stay on my parents account because it's just simpler) of like $50/month (high estimate), then gas which fluctuates way too much and depends on too much to estimate, goal is to save 10% of my initial check for rainy day stuff/large life purchases straight off. After that I plan to use what I need and hold on to what I don't. I'm not big on throwing money away on stupid things, even the idea of renting over buying doesn't sit too well with me because after a year I'll have nothing to show for all the money I spent. I'll likely see the "massive amounts of money" I'll feel like I'm making and do some huge purchase right off (still paying cash) then realize how much I'm really making and dial it back. I like to have fun with my money and always have at least two projects in mind, but I know how to limit myself and am generally pretty money wise. If I can afford to do a project, awesome. If I can't, oh well, time to work harder so I can afford the things I want.
As far as the actual boosting the engine, I know there's other factors involved. That's why I came here for answers. I don't know what all is involved in something like this or the feasibility of this project. A supercharger would be much simpler as they come in a premade kit that bolts on, but I like to do things that are often not done. I mean aside from the one article I haven't seen anyone even remote mount a turbo for a 5.4L 3V (the link was a 4.6L). I know I'll need new injectors, an intercooler, exhaust (new info), oil pump, definitely custom dyno tunes, BOV, and waste gate. It's still in the purely conceptual research phase to determine if the performance increase is worth the money. The truck has 167,000 miles currently so if I boost it I may run in to issues since all the bearings have high mileage already. As far as what I hope to see performance wise? Couldn't tell you. I don't have any idea what typical numbers are for F-150's. The only reason I know a range for boost pressures is from looking at what the SC guys say is safe to run with a SC.

IBD (a member on here) has put twin turbo and supercharger on his 5.4. Granted he has done a lot of work to it, but it's been done on here. Just not exactly like you were thinking. I'll try to pull the link if somebody doesn't beat me to it.
