Before doing a solid axle swap (SAS), make sure you do a lot of research on components and angles. There have been a few on here that have successfully done it, but don't expect a while lot of help. They're well aware of how dangerous it could be of done improperly.

Using a donor truck means that everything should bolt up for the most part. You'll have to make sure though. Neither project is cheap if you want it done right. You also have to consider how long you'll be without a truck. I usually figure up how much time it will take then triple it to be safe.

Some decent tires will get you most places a 4x4 will. I've always been a fan of taller/skinnier mud treaded tires. That's not everybody's cup of tea though.
