Default Turn signal switch making odd noise

about 50% of the time, when i signal for a right turn, there is a strange buzzing/whining sound coming from the column. the lights do not flash when this happens.

left turn is fine

my old '01 explorer had a similar problem (but with no noise). turns out ford put too short of a wire in the plug, and if you moved the column a lot, the wire would pull out of the plug.

but this doesn't seem like that kind of problem. i have a feeling a new turn signal switch is in my future, but figure i would ask around first.

Try spraying electrical contact cleaner down around the hazard switch and operate it a few times. Sometimes the contacts get dirty in the switch and this helps.

yeah, sounds like the switch is shorting for some reason. if you wiggle the switch or push it up (if your signal switch is on the left side of the steering wheel that is; I got the coloumn shift model and not the floor shift model) while it is making the sounds does the signal start to work at all, even intermittantly?

Great info about the column movement. My turn signals have been working while parked, but not while driving. After seeing them work today while parked, I moved the column to the down position I drive in, and they went off. So the problem is likely a loose conection that is tugged on when adjusting the column down.
