Question Need Help, How do High Beams Turn on?

How do the high beams turn on? Is there a relay i could tap into? Or a Wire? Anyone have the wiring schematic for this?

Here is what I am wanting to do...(I KNOW ITS ILLEGAL!)

I installed 2 off road lights, and instead of having a switch, i would like to wire them so that when i turn my brights/ high beams on, the off road lights come on as well...Can this be done?

Thanks in advance!

It can be done, I would not recomend it for two reason, one its illegal and two, unless you run another relay for your off-road lights you are drawing power away from your high beems. not a good idea IMO.

but generally speaking your lights run off of a relay, what I would recomend is adding another relay for your off-road lights and grabbing power from the high beem switch wire. I would not grab it off the power to the high beem itself because you may over draw the wire or the relay you use, causing a fire hazard. but that's just one way to approach it.

sorry no wiring diagram

hope this helps

Yeah, I have a relay, and I want to do pretty much what you suggested. I basically want my "switch" to turn on when I turn the high beams on...Like you said, I want my off road lights to get power when i turn on high beams...I just need to know which wire to tap into...

there should be a solid yellow wire going from your multifunction switch to the high beam headlight relay. you may find this in the area of the steering column. leading up the column to the blinker/headlight multifunction switch on the left hand side of the column. the best way to determine for sure is to use a mulitmeter. find this solid yellow wire, and test to see when it has 12v running through it. when you have the low beam on there should be 0. you multi meter may say .12430 or something stupid, that constitutes for 0. when you have the high beam on it should read at least 12v it may read higher depending if you truck is running or was just running. you can tap off of that to activate the relay for the off road lights.

this is a link to the schematic if you would like to look at it.

PS: all I did was google: wiring diagrams 2007 f150 high beam

nope they dont but like I said wiring diagram or not, double check to make sure you have the right wire. and DO NOT TOUCH any thick yellow wires they tend to be SRS most of them are labled well anyways

if its illegal, why does MINI (BMW) wire their driving lights into the high beams. they are basically the same thing as off road lights.

it's illegal because you aren't allowed to have more than 4 lights on at a time and the high beams count as 4, thats why your fogs cut off when on. hmm idk about the mini though.
