Default Turbo in 2007 5.4

Hey guys, new user here. I'm interested in building and installing a turbo on my 2007 5.4 3v engine with a touch over 99k miles. I got the truck a month of so ago and it runs perfectly fine. I've got single in dual out flowmaster exhaust, and recently picked up an edge tuner from a buddy. The tuner is more than I expected, but less than I ultimately want performance wise. I know a turbo can be done, but was looking for general tips/info from people that have been there done that. A big question is relative cost. Any advice would be great.

Not sure where you are loccated, but there are dozens of Topics on this. Best ones I've seen so far are from HBRacing in Katy, TX. They would probably be able to point you in the right direction as they have been on this forum for a while. I'm watching a thread they are doing for a twin set-up for the 5.0 2WD. Search feature on the home page will help you not duplicate a lot of threads. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Turbo kits aren't cheap, and you'll be better off with a SCT programmer........ I highly recommend a Meth kit.

Have you looked at the prochargers? I think all of the compressed air systems are about the same as far as pricing, or close to it for the HP/TQ gains. They have kits for your year and engine. Wasn't sure if you had looked at that too.

The turbo kits I have found four our truck are roughly the same cost as a pro charger or even a whipple. Neither is cheap by any means.

Yeah from what I've seen commercial kits are gonna run between 5 and 6 grand (ouch). I was looking into building one, but it's not that much cheaper in the long run, not to mention the amount of time and labor. I guess I'll just keep saving/dreaming for a Raptor haha

OP, is your truck 2x4 or 4x4? And honestly I think you'd be better off with a whipple over a turbo..... And i'm bias towards turbo's.

I'm waiting for Blown Ford to pop in and share his knowledge with OP.

It's 2x4. I already have a 4x4 in the barn, so no need for another. And why a whipple? Turbo seems more efficient and less expensive
