Tuner vs. Re-gear for 3.55's
A 6" lift and 35's are in my near future, however I have the 3.55 gears and am wondering what is the best route to take. I've started to explore options and pricing for re-gearing (ouch) but have also begun to toy with the idea of using a tuner instead to help compensate for the gears and tires and firm up my shifting.
My main concern is preserving the longevity of the truck, as I don't want to harm the tranny at all. I've been considering re-gearing to 4.56's but at a steep cost. Would running a tuner with the 3.55's suffice? Perhaps re-gear down the road if I feel I need to?

Hi.
With a 4R75E, a tuner is no substitute for regearing. Truck will still be a dog and yer tranny will be under undue stress.
With a regear to 4.56 you will need a tuner in any case to re-calibrate Speedo and Odo, and get yer shift points back to where they need to be. A tuner will also reduce trans slip and help reduce trans temps.
You need to invest in both if you want longevity
Along will come any number of folks who will claim 3.55's and 35's are great. I've driven trucks like that - it's no fun. Denial is a perfectly normal human trait.
good luck

You will need a tuner anyway so start with that. You probably won't be happy until a regear and 35's on 3.55 gears will be a dog no matter what you do plus it will stress the drivetrain.
4.56's was the best - and most costly - upgrade I have done to my truck. I run 315's on stock 17" wheels.
I can haul maximum loads with my truck w/o turning off the OD with no increase in tranny temps.
