What burns me is when a station charges more for the gas that's already in their tanks.

Yeah regulated gas is good in theory but it never seems to follow the actual cost of oil, and once they jack the price up your stuck with it for two weeks. I live ten minuets from the maine border so I usual go across and get it. The last time i filled up it worked out to about $0.85/ L but that changes all the time. It dosen't really mater were u buy it's still to much, lol.

Do I need my truck for work, no. But it has come in handy a few times for work. I've needed it a lot more outside of work to be honest. I wouldn't mind getting a little gas saver 4cyl car as a second vehicle but I'm definite not trading my truck in for one. Only thing I'd trade my truck in for is a newer vette or newer CTS-V and both of those will cost me more mod money, speeding tickets and more on gas so that's not happening right now lol.

I would trade my truck and my girlfriend in for a CTS-V.

To answer the OP's question......yes; rising gas prices affect the value of SUV's........drastically.

You won't see this reflected on KBB or on sticker prices of SUV's at dealerships.......but I'll tell you a little story:

I'm from Virginia Beach (JUST moved to San Diego). Out in Va Beach gas is fairly cheap in comparison to the rest of the country. Not as cheap as the 86 octane stuff in New Mexico and Arizona; but damn cheap for regular 87 octane.

Back in '07 was prolly the worst year we had that I can remember for gas prices; obviously it was in the summer. I had just sold my Ranger a few months earlier in hopes of getting an Expedition that was a 4x4.

But before I went shopping I started calling around; as gas prices had already started creaping up. I have many friends that are either salesmem or mechanics at multiple dealerships in the area. I kept calling to see if they had sold any SUV's. I kept calling till it had been a week since they ANY of the had sold one. Once that point was reached I waited till they stopped taking SUV's as trade ins. A few weeks later ALL of the dealerships that I had friends at had stopped taking SUV's as trade ins.

Then I waited another week or so, got a pre approved loan so I had teh check in my pocket.......and I went shopping.

After driving a few Expeditions and not being impressed I started looking at F150's. Found one I fell in love with. Remember; this is back in '07. It was an '04 FX4 SCAB with a bed liner and ARE hard cover with power lock. It had just over 20k miles on it and the sticker asking price was 24k.

I told the guy I was interested and we went in to talk about it.

When we sat down I told him that we both knew the sticker price was wayyyy off; and I was paying nowhere near that price. He asked what I was willing to pay. I told him 16k out the door (tax/title/processing all included, which is around a grand), and that I wanted 4 brand new tires put on it.

He didn't blink. Said he'd be right back. Within just a couple minutes he came back and said 'sold'. He didn't haggle at all. Even KBB put that truck at over 23k used from a dealer; and this guy didn't flinch.

All my friends (the non dealership peeps) thought I was crazy; untill months later when gas prices started dropping again.

I mean......I paid 14k for a 3yr old FX4!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously!!!!!! Take 16k, subtract the taxing and titling and processing fees, then subtract 4 brand new tires put on.........that's 14k!!!!!! Holy crap!

My point is this:

Don't look at rising gas prices as a time to get scared or worry about the value of your truck; look at it as a way of using it to your advantage.

The cost of gas isn't based on what's in the tanks. It's based on what it will cost of REPLACE it (oil futures).

Exactly... My truck has small things that drive me crazy about it so it need's to go...I wan't it gone ASAP. before the gas prices creep up.. Then when there at the max.. Time to look for a new truck again

Btw Gas prices have no effect on me I'll drive a truck no matter what but I know it will effect the general public as a whole.

Speculation is the root of all evil.
